Soon to have a family and looking to upgrade one of the cars we currently have due to them both being 2 door cars.

Budget: max 10k
Used for long drives back home so some level of comfort as well as by the mrs
Decent boot space
Either petrol or diesel
Would like some level of performance
Something unusual would be preferred

I've gone from looking at land cruisers to older 5 seriers to just a run of the mill volvo estate.I do a fair amount of work myself so running costs/repairs don't worry me too much but I also don't want to spend tonnes on upkeep.

Can't really think on how to narrow down as there are so many options

Thanks for the suggestions, interested in the infiniti, always had a bit of a soft spot for those.

Started to look and there is a fair amount out there for around this budget.

That will get you into a nice Jag XF SV8. Fantastic motorway cruiser with 420 bhp - what's not to like. Another £2k will get you into an XFR....
