Tell me I'm a moron

£10kish can be had very cheaply over 5 years at the moment.

Put aside £6k to spend on servicing/repairs. Sell for the same £10kish minimum 2 years later and that's £3k/year to spend in an E39 M5 for example...

I guess you'd want to get it insured for the purchase price in the event of a write off. £6k servicing seems fair considering I can do a lot of the work myself, allows some room for mild borkage. Ideally you'd sell for a profit to cover the running costs.

Any other V8 suggestions?

C5 RS6, find one with gearbox repair and some decent suspension, can only see them creeping back up in price soon

10k will get you a half decent TVR Chimaera and I guarantee for smiles per mile you can’t get better!

Buy a good one and you will only need a small fraction of your 6k and it should easily be worth every penny of the purchase price in 2 years, if not more!

Oh and insurance is as cheap as it comes! £100-200 pa

X350 XJR.
I’ve just bought a 2007 4.2 V8 non supercharged for a lot less than your budget ... with a massive resto all done .

If you want a manual then my money would be e39 m5 as you mentioned or possibly a vauxhall monaro if you like a lazier low down torque v8. If your happy with an automatic then either a jaguar xj/xjr. There are an abundance of merc/bmw/lexus saloons in auto within budget but doubt they will hold their value as well as the others.

Yours was the exception sjc, absolutely all other X350’s are overpriced or won’t be anywhere as good as yours.

However, 2 door Jag V8’s are available, and dare I say the marmite S type V8 (yes heavier than the XJ) is a relative bargain.

Also, in an unloved British heavyweight stylee...

Audi A6 (C6, 4.2v8). Not many around, especially the later FSI ones. They seem to come up cheaper than the V6, and certainly a nice drive.

My 650i is for sale. Less Bork factor and nicer than a £6k shed.

Pretty much any American import. C4 Corvette's can still be had around this price, C5's a bit more. They all hold their money well.

Fbody, Mustang or may a pickup truck. Might even get a slightly less popular 70's muscle in budget too.

My pick is the C55/CLK55 AMG prices are firm on these & you won't be spending 3k a year on one & you should be able to sell for similar money as long as the market remains stable.

This one is very cheap so you could end up with a bargain where you sell for a tidy profit.
