Infiniti M and Q50 Hybrids - Owners comments, impressions
Discussion
Been considering a 3-4 year old one of these as a new daily due to a change of job. Be doing about 15k a year and had completely gone under my radar. Was looking at the hybrid Lexus IS 300 hybrid but I'm not keen on the looks and the GS450 is a bit big and (on paper at least ) less economical. Be interested in owners opinions and experiences. Real world MPG?. The mid forties quoted in road tests seem optimistic to me as the Nissan V6 isn't that fuel efficient normally. Does it work like the Lexus system - switching to electric only for a few miles in traffic?
Real world the average will be between 28-32mpg it works exactly the same as the Lexus system although it's a simpler system it's just as efficient, if you get a later one it'll have the 2.0T lump which although better on fuel it's not as smooth as the V6.
It's swift GT car don't expect it to be a super saloon, but it's a brisk 0-60mph in the 5's is not slow.
What did you want to know? Whilst I don't own one I've done over a 1000 miles in this & the diesel version & supplied both to customers so maybe I can help.

Just what you thought of them really, well built? Ride quality? It's swift GT car don't expect it to be a super saloon, but it's a brisk 0-60mph in the 5's is not slow.

They're very well built the ride is also very good they're slightly softer than most of their competitors, especially in Premium spec the Sport is a nice compromise ride quality wise.
The V6 is a well proven engine & pretty much bulletproof it's a proper Auto rather than a CVT box.
When I'm looking for hybrids in a certain price range these are my first recommendation.

I've owned an FX50 in the past for 4 years, I changed it for an M35h which I had for 18 months until it was written off last October.
The build quality of both cars was very good, the FX had a few issues, the M was faultless.
Real world MPGI found to be early 30's with mine with motorway driving.
When looking for one go for the premium spec not the business edition as the later often has a few less nice options, the premium spec cars are totally loaded with everything.
Whilst not in the mould of an M5 or similar dynamically, it's still a very rapid barge, it is quite impressive on full throttle with both motors engaged how quickly it accelerates for a big car, it's also extremely comfortable for the driver and rear passengers.
There are a few downsides.. dealers are a mixed bag, there's no extended warranty scheme, parts are very expensive, re-sale can be tricky as it's a very niche car. The earlier M series cars all suffer a little from clonks and a little jerkiness as the motors engage and disengage for the hybrid system. The later Q50 hybrid I drove was better but it's a much smaller package if you want a big car. The last drawback if you use the car for family duties is the boot. The motion battery takes up a lot of space in the boot so the usuable storage space is around 300 liters iirc, this can make family trips a little challenging..
Great cars, good luck with your search!

Thanks for your comments people. It certainly sounds like it might suit, will probably be this or a Lexus IS/GS hybrid. The IS300s would seem to be a good chunk more economical and is only £10 to tax but I like odd ball cars and the Q50 looks better IMO, interior looks nicer and it's a whole lot faster. Better value 2nd hand too. Have to try and track one down at a dealer for a test drive.
