I bought a 2005 octavia 1.9tdi elegance DSG in July and have had quite a few electrical gremlins with it, coupled with the fact I don't like the gearbox a lot as it changes up far too early, jerks around when doing slow movements as well (after 2 DSGs, they just aren't for me). It was only £2500, but needed a new turbo, taking the total cost of the car to £3000 so far. Not sure whether to just put up with it until the 12 month mark is up as it is mechanically sound and then justify changing, or if I just cut my losses and change...
If I were to change, I'd want something automatic ideally, but not a dual-clutch automatic. Our other car is a 4 speed auto Kia Sorento and it is smooth, but awfully slow and the steering is terrible. So I'd want something a with a bit of go, similar to my octavia as that has plenty for me and also something that handles decently.
I would consider a manual again, depending on the car. We have a dog, so it needs to fit a medium sized dog crate in the back and my long legs in the front!
Probably worth adding that I live out in the back of Dartmoor and access can sometimes be tricky, resulting in us leaving the octavia away from the house.
Any opinions?
