Hi All. A boring car I know, but my wife is after a small / medium size manual hatchback, dark red in colour with sat nav. Needs to be for sale within 10 miles of us, so Colchester or Ipswich. I am paying for it and the running costs so budget around £7000 to £10000 and needs to be economical as she does around 1500 miles per month.

Looking on various cars for sale websites gives this 1 car for sale. Has anyone got or had one ? Anything to be aware of ?

I've got the 1.2 petrol so not exactly the same but it's not a bad car. Don't expect it to be a particularly engaging drive and the clutch is a bit heavy to be honest so stop/start traffic can get tiresome quickly, but this might be different with the diesel version. The only thing I will say though is that my fiancée really struggles with getting her head round the dimensions of the car as the rear end is wider than the front and has scratched it twice in the 6 months we've had it. That could just be her though. We have the N-TEC trim line and the LED headlights/reverse cam are great, seats are comfortable (done a few 200+ mile journeys) and having DAB is great too. The sat-nav is hopeless though, it has no clue where it wants to go.

Pouks - Thanks for the post ( your first ! ). Is the sat nav really that bad ? My wife's job takes her to a new place each day so a decent sat nav is important.

Limiting to a 10 mile radius will be the biggest limitation, remember most dealers will deliver to you.

For me having my OH spending 1500 miles a month in a car my priority would be comfort & reliability with this in mind these would be my picks:

Vauxhall Astra in Elite trim they'll soak up the miles with ease:

It's not amazing. I have tested it alongside Google Maps and Waze and I've found the Pulsar sat nav tends to take you on the slower routes. Although this could be down to the live traffic feed Google Maps uses as well. That being said, the Pulsar does give you directions on the LCD screen in the instrument cluster so it's difficult to miss an exit and it's pretty simple to use. I may have just had a bit of bad luck with it's choice of direction for where I live, so I could give it the benefit of the doubt. Aside from that though it's a great car and I've really enjoyed my ownership of it so far.

My dad's had a 1.5 DCI N-Tec from new (late 2014). I got it on the lease scheme for him when I worked at Nissan, and he liked it enough to take up the option to buy it when I left the company a year or so later.

He's been really happy with it. He's had one problem and that was an issue with the air conditioning, but aside from that, it's been trouble free. He doesn't do many miles, though - I think he's got under 30,000 on the car.

I've driven it from time to time and it's quite comfortable and refined. Goes well enough and has a huge amount of space inside - it's a lot more spacious than a Focus in the rear, for example.

During my time Nissan I owned various cars with the 1.5 K9K unit and always found it perfectly suited to this size of car.
