Hi everyone, so I’m currently in the search of a new car, I’ve currently got a 65 Audi A4 sline Nav tdi 190 which I’ve had for around 6 months, my reason for wanting a new car is because I’m wanting to buy a house early next year and wanting to save more money for the house. I’m looking for something more spacious around the same performance if not a little less, I have a chow chow ( dog ) which the Audi isn’t going to be suitable for much longer, petrol engine would be preferred and auto, maybe an estate. my Audi Is on HP costing 349 a month and the insurance at 257 then fuel which is around 100 a month, I can afford it easily but a house is more important to me and I feel paying all that just for an Audi is silly which I should of thought about in the first place, I’m wanting to lease next so any suggestions would be great on what car to get, I’m only 21 as to why the insurance is so much on the Audi, I don’t want to be paying more than 300 a month and I’m sure the insurance will drop when I change vehicle so I’m saving money which is what I want, I want something that looks fairly nice aswell with some toys inside, I’m rubbish at trying to explain things but all help would be much appreciated

Sorry OP but I remember when I was that age my car was likely worth £60-80 total value of the car - I must be getting old but a near on brand new car @21 which I’d wager is worth £40k+ all on the drip.

Why not buy a Saab 95 aero or even a 2.2 TDI estate and run it into the ground - that’s the route if the house genuinely is the most important thing to you.
You’d barely spend £1-1.5k on one o the best in the country.

1. How much is the car valued at?

2. How much outstanding is there on the HP loan?

3. Is that 300 a month on the car or 300 a month on the car + insurance? You'll struggle to do the latter IMHO.
Car valued at 14.400 around something like that and HP is 12000 and preferably under 300 for the lease alone

Not being stuck up or anything but I’ve had run arounds before and since having this Audi and my 66 plate corsa I couldn’t buy an old car again plus I do 38 miles a day to work and back five days a week so I want something comfy and some good toys inside

As Welshbeef says, if you are seriously saving for a house just buy something older and buy it outright, probably not the answer you are wanting to hear but take it from someone who spent way too much money on cars when at your age... flash/new cars may be nice but your own place is a lot better plus the sooner you are paying that mortgage off the sooner you can start buying toys again (plus your insurance will be cheap by then!)

What difference is 50 a month on a lease? If I was looking to change I'd be looking to get an older estate with cash like Welshbeef said. His recommendations are good too. You could also consider a V70?
Whatever car I get it’s going to be cheaper on insurance, don’t have to worry about repairs or anything as it will be under warranty, I’m buying a house closer to work aswell hence wanting a petrol, my Audi’s in need of tyres soon 700 pound for all 4 just expense I don’t need when I saving my arse off

That's if ICE cars haven't benn taxed to death in 25 years time, which is the term of most mortgages, no?
Yes sorry you are right, O.P. best to spend what you can on a car whilst you still can! rolleyes

I think you're going to struggle to find a newish estate with warrenty that is cheaper to insurance than your A4. It sounds like having your cake and eating it too.

The A4 is in Insurance Group 20 for the 2.0 190 TDI S-Line. A Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI estate is the same. A 320d touring is in Group 27. Mondeo 2.0 TDI estate is Group 21.
I was looking at the seat Leon sport tourer 1.5 tsi dsg my dads misses works for the nhs which she has a blue light card so hoping we can use that aswell to get it cheaper?

Surely the answer is one of the recent Octavia SE Tech Estate deals at under £200 per month amortised? Granted it's only the 1.0 TSI but it should be peppy enough. It's not gonna set the world alight but nothing can touch them for the money. Should be cheap insurance too being a 1.0.

38miles a day commute is tiddly it’s 16 miles each way your idea of needing comfort for that long commute is very different to mine. . Barely 10k a year...

My commutes this last week- I’ve done total miles 1,300 in a week all work that’s where you need comfort not 16 mileswhich is 15-20mins on your bottom in the car

19 miles each way which is nothing but when your sat in traffic for half of it, I don’t want to be sitting in something not comfy it takes me over an hour to get home when I finish at half 4

Ouch. That's a good £200/250 a week on fuel. Hope you get to expense that wink
I drive a diesel so it’s 2 tanks c£160 for that distance.

Of course it’s expensed / less home to normal place of office.

What MPG do you get in the 535d?
Last week doing long distance Obc was showing 45-46mpg

Not bad for 295hp and 442lb-ft.
Exactly.

The LCI version with more power goes even better on the fuel too....

I'd say hand the car back & buy something outright, spend around 6k & you'll land a decent car that'll be reliable as well as loaded with kit:

2.5T Mondeo Titanium X

A work colleague has this engine in an Ateca, it's not fast but it's certainly not slow - it'll keep up with traffic well enough. It's got 115bhp and isn't very heavy for such a big car.
