Looking for a car for SWMBO, her key requirement is that it’s got a nice ‘cockpit’ feel for the driver. She’d also prefer an SUV, but it’s not a necessity.

So far we’ve only looked at the DS7 Crossback, but it was quite overpriced really for what it is.

Budget wise, we’re either looking at a cash price of up to £15k or a new car on lease/PCP up to around £40k.

Thanks,
R

Could you clarify what you mean by that? It's likely to be very subjective (and rather peculiar) way to search for a car IMO.

I had one of these for a few weeks while my LR was in for repair, nice drive actually and a good place to be on a long drive,

SAAB was the first thing that came to my mind lol. The older Civics have a cockpit feel also. But neither of these cars will be all that new.

Perhaps the Volvo XC60 as the dash points towards the driver, has that massive tablet and also ticks the SUV box. Haven't looked at prices though.

Jaguar XE, if a SUV isn’t a necessity.

E-Pace also springs to mind, but you'll be approaching the top end of your budget

Thanks - hadn’t thought of the 3008, so that’s a good suggestion!

The E Pace has exactly the same kind of ‘cockpit’ she’s after (basically something with a raised ‘transmission tunnel’). However, I’m guessing that it’s probably over budget.

Wonder why Japanese cars always seem to sling switches and dials just anywhere, do they have no concept of ergonomics, I've owed a couple myself and they're all alike in that regard.

The new A6 is the same but a fair bit cheaper (used), still upwards of £30k though.

I'm a big Audi fan and still thinking between a S5 or a more sensible a7 50 and the interior are always great

However to me, the best cockpits in terms of feeling 'in" a car has to be the BMW's (generalising here of course)

Most others you don't feel as part of the car.

If all she wants is a raised transmission tunnel then a bit of plywood and some carpet will do the trick. Make sure the car is RWD to begin with and you'll only need half the amount of materials. Budget for some screws too.

Spend the £30k you just saved on some holidays, art, fine wine, a small boat and some mooring fees, clothes, a PSVR and a big telly... the list goes on...
