I have spoken with a lot of people recently about the wonderful topic of bangernomics, and the ever dwindling number of desirable cars available for little money.

This got me thinking, is there such a thing out there as a car with a V12 that is NOT ruinously expensive? We all know how smooth, luxurious and thirsty they are - but what is the most frugal/friendly twelve to ever grace the roads? Preferably in a package that you'd actually want to buy

The Mercedes V12 biturbo - as fitted to the S600 and CL600 - is almost certainly the most efficient in terms of fuel consumption (24.6mpg average; 32.6mpg extra-urban claimed on the last gen S-class). If it can actually achieve those figures, it'd be better than my Saab 9-5!

Due in part to the fact that it spends a good bit of time running as a 6-cylinder, though, I think.

There may be V12s that don't prove to be ruinously expensive, but I doubt there is one that isn't potentially ruinous! laugh

It's not a proper V12 if you don't get single figure MPG.
