Beyond car insurance, anything else I should be looking to add for better fees than dealership? Paint protection? Tyre protection? Alloy protection?

Would appreciate some insight into what you guys would suggest and any providers if applicable.

Cheers

S car? Last stats I saw say the S3 is the most robbed car in the UK.

Scary until you see the figure is 6 in 1000 sold.

Some jarg cars are 3 in 1000 so you double your chances but from a low base. I was put off buying one because of the scare stories, but a guy around the corner has an S3 saloon. Had it a few months now.

Whatcar doesn't have a S in its top ten list for robbed cars.

Don't let the scare stories put you off like it did for me.

You don't need to add anything other than tax and insurance - and MOT if its expired.

A lot of what garages sell you as add on are unnecessary and you'll find arguments for and against each of them.
I've never bothered with any of them personally, with the exception of GAP insurance.

I have an 'S' car.

I got paint protect because I find it easier to clean and they often come with a load of products I wouldn't have thought to buy that are good - but I wouldn't bother with any of this if you're leasing/giving the car back.

I got GAP insurance too through the link on this site for a very reasonable price, so that it's fully insured up to the invoice price, which helps me sleep at night when it's on the driveway.

I had a new S4 for over three years.

I parked it on my drive every night and in a public car park every day.

Nothing happened.

No scratches, no dents, no thefts.

I don't think S4/5's are on the list, as they are saloons. The 5' especially as its is a 2 door car, so not great as a getaway.

Well paint protection, depends what they offer you and for how much? If Supaguard or Williams Coating, better off getting something from a trusted detailer that will last longer and applied properly (ceramic coating) for the same price..

Tyre and alloy protection, plenty of companies offer it, as an aftermarket product, however dealers stop doing deals on this stuff as it is closely regulated now. I purchased tyre insurance, as the cost of the policy would wash it's face on just one tyre replacement..

Get the paint protection carried out by a professional detailer I'd also recommend PPF over the whole bonnet as I've found VAG paint a bit susceptible to chipping in this area.

On your evidence they are three times less likely than Golfs and as likely as minis.

Audi's 6 times less likely than fords if you take the data here without any thought also (local data, nationally it's 3x)

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-new...

I would love to run analysis on the raw data. For what it's worth my insurance company (when looking to change my A4 diesel for a new S5) didn't consider the risk high as my insurance was only going to go up 5%

Of course a s car is more likely to be targeted over a basic ford focus, but people really overplay the odds.

The odds of being in a car crash are 1 in 200 which more likely than the figures for a S5 being robbed, but you don't see people on here saying whenever anyone buys a car, oooh wouldn't buy that, might crash it.

Get a ceramic coating put on the paint by a detailer.

Tyre protection and alloy wheel protection are nonsense. Like insuring every bit on the car. Learn to park and you don't need wheel insurance and as for tyres, well, they're going to wear out anyway.

If it's on finance, get GAP insurance. Spend the rest of your money on petrol.
