Buying a car with a replacement engine

I’ve been looking for a G55 and came across one that’s had a replacement engine. The car is from 2008, with 155,000km and he the engine replaced under goodwill by MB at 125,000km.
I don’t know the reason for the replacement, but as it was done outside of warranty and under good will I’m assuming it’s not because the car was trashed or poorly maintained. These M113 engines have a reputation to be bulletproof mechanically so I’m wondering what the real reason was.
Anyway, has anyone ever bought a car with a replacement engine? And does this affect the value of a used car, or make it tough to re-sell?

if it was a genuine new engine then bonus , must have replaced /check other bits n bobs like clutch etc when it was out and id imagine they would have done a decent job

I purchased my F11 520 because it had a new engine from BMW, as they are notorious for the chain snapping. plus it came with a 2 year warranty.

I bought my x308 jaguar xjr specifically because it had a well documented new engine fitted. They had a common fault which could cause catastrophic failures.
Drove it without issue for around ten years.

I would check to make sure if mb can confirm this rather than a bit of paper

If it has supportive paperwork from MB then I wouldn't see it as an issue at all, a bonus if anything

Never bought one, but I have sold one. 7 year old E39 M5 (at the time) with 100k miles. Extended warranty, engine went pop, BMW immediately diagnosed big end failure (car had just been serviced by a main dealer which helped their decision no doubt) and they put a new new lump in it. Most expensive E39 warranty job North Oxford had done at the time apparently.

Sold it soon after because I had my fun with it and figured a new engine would be attractive to buyers. It was and of course, since it was genuine BMW, was also guaranteed.

Can't see a downside to buying a car with a new engine, so long as its been replaced by someone accountable.
