I’m in need of help. Let’s not talk psych, though , OK?

I have a whopping great Pistonheads budget of circa £35k, preferably much less. You know, a guy’s got to eat.

After a Cobra replica experience that lasted two years, I find myself hankering after something akin to the old Fake Snake, from a sound and performance aspect at the very least. 7.0L of Ford FE with a Holly 750cfm mounted atop pushing a mere 1200kgs (that’s with me in the hot seat and go-juice in the tank) made for pretty decent forward motion.

Driving from the ‘wrong’ side of the car isn’t an issue. Hell, I’m already confused so a little more confusion won’t matter a jot!

A drop top would be ideal, or no top, just like the old Cobra. There’s nothing quite like feeling the wind in my (ever decreasing) hair. Worry not. No comb- over!

What do your collective PH craniums recommend?

Id probably own one of these myself if they came in Rhd. Some money left to put a nice straight through/switchable exhaust on it.

Tuned monaro?

Would be fast, and sound great...lacks the soft top option but still a cool car.

Lightweight, noisy, open top for circa £35k? It's got to be a Griffith?!

Maybe a little civilised? If not you could also try ZL1 camaro (I think a 2014 may come on budget.... just) or a GT500 S197 mustang.

Failing that 2005+ SLK55 from £13/14k upwards (a little biased here as I'll be selling mine soon) or SL55/65

There's a Dodge Viper 25k miles going for £30k, 8.0L and soft top for the dome or a Corvette with 15k miles for £28k in black.

There's also a classic Ford Mustang 4.7 V8 convertible for £27k, one of only 127 made. I like the new one (5.0L), there's even a few convertibles imported from California at less than £23k.

If it serious power & the potential for a lot more that you want I give you the Camaro ZL1:

Hmmm, nice call on the Vette. I like that one. I know I’m being picky, but I’d prefer a manual or a better slushbox that the GM offering.

These look nice too, easy to forget them but no soft top on this one.
