New car has arrived at the dealer. They aren't bothered if I take it next weekend (in December) or the first week of January, however I have this thought (possibly a stupid one, hence the post) that I should wait until first week of Jan to do pick-up as they will register it in that week and then be a 2019 car, thus in turn it will appear younger (and more desirable) come resale in a few years time.

Sensible, or cutting my nose off to spite my face? confused

Assuming it is a ‘normal’ kind of car it will have a slighter higher trade guide price as a 19/68 so if it is no skin off yours or the dealer’s nose to wait until Jan, why not.

Golf GTI. Thanks, that’s my thinking too.

I think I’ll be patient and wait until Jan.

You may just want to confirm they will actually register the car in January as some would reg in December and handover a few days later

I wouldn't worry about it too much TBH.

You'll be giving it back way before it becomes an issue.

Build quality is appalling nowadays

If you can make it a 19/68 then do it. If you can't, who cares. You'll enjoy it no matter what.
