Ok my clutch has gone on my shed at the worse time of the year. I am probably without a car for nearly 2 weeks.

Considering options on what to do. I could rent a car for a few hundred quid and risk them trying to rob me for the 1000 pound insurance excess if they claim it is damaged.

Or I could find a car for 300 to 400 quid and keep it as a back up, this car could be anything, long as it runs. I could also sell it when I am done with it in a few weeks.

Ive tried gumtree, eBay, auto trader. Options seem thin on the ground right now.

Anyone got any out of the box suggestions to keep me mobile until I can get clutch swapped?

It is. It's on 95k now and clutch is slipping. Not bad to say I'm 7th owner.

You should be able to get a clutch sorted for it for c.£400ish - have you tried whocanfixmycar.com

You would be better off just fixing the Avensis.

I've called round loads of places and people. Some dodgy garages quoting 375, most want 550 ISH, main dealer is 625, a friend of a friend is gonna sort it for 380. I know I can trust him.

Yea go for your trusted mechanic seems like a good choice. Surprised main dealer is relatively competitive only £200ish more!

Dealer worth considering if you intend to keep the car a while yet as the repair might come with some form of guarantee.

Ford Ka is the go to. £150 to £250 will put you in one with at least a few weeks MOT that runs and drives without any real issue.

Get a cheap moped.

Any car you buy will mean you have to tax it too. Some of the older petrol cars can cost quite a bit

A cheap moped will be more than a car and considerably worse.
