Asking dealer to swap tyres?
Discussion
Hi all, merry new year. I am in negotiations with a franchise dealer about a Civic type r. It has been fitted with new budget ditch finder tyres on the rear by them, for the sale. I have said I don't think it's acceptable for a performance car to have these tyres on, especially if I'm paying circa £21k for it. They won't budge on price and won't change the tyres. Am I unreasonable to ask/expect this?
(and yes I bid a fond and sad farewell to the FD2 just before xmas).

Not an unreasonable request - assume it's under an approved scheme? if so do they not have standards, I would expect an approved car to have the recommended manufacturers tyres on it, or is it just tyre tread depth?
But as folks say, walk away if you're not happy, not like it's a rare car...

I used one deal a lot with lease companies and they wouldn’t fit anything other than premium brands because they couldn’t resell the car at the end of the lease with s
t tyres...
If I was spending £21k on a relatively new hot hatch I’d expect OEM tyres on each corner, with similar tread depth across each axles (not necessarily front to rear though).
If they won’t sort it then find another car, or a dealer that will.

Yes it's Honda approved used. Thing is they are actually quite rare - I want one in grey and there are 9 on auto trader, 3 are out of budget, 3 are miles away and with too much mileage, 2 I've seen already and rejected, leaving 1! I'm happy with the price, but not if I then have to immediately shell out £350 odd for new tyres.
I guess there is nothing to say a performance car should have a performance tyre on a approved used scheme. I can't imagine a dealer selling a GTR or a Ferrari with brand new budget tyres. I even suggested they take the budgets off, keep them for another vehicle and I'll pay a contribution towards premium tyres, but that was flatly refused. Its not like its a £500 s
tbox.

I'd walk and find another.
Me too, I'd also tell them why they lost the sale. They won't care though.edit to add: the garage sounds s
t, if they are treating you like this before they have your money imagine how they'll deal with problems once they do have it.Edited by Motorrad on Tuesday 1st January 10:27

No explanation from them offered as to why they won't change them? I'm surprised tbh. What brand of tyre is it they've got fitted?
No they just said they can't do anything about the tyres as the car has been heavily reduced, which it has been in the run up to Xmas, but it was too high in comparison with similar cars to begin with. They tyres are called Eternity - unless they are secretly good? I've never heard of them.

That’s probably how long they’ll last!
If it’s the car you want at the price you want - I’d buy it and put new rubber on it yourself. At least you’ll be happy with it then.
As previously said, sell the ditchfinders on gumtree. Someone will be after cheap tread.
