Used car dealer - service history missing since purchase
Discussion
Hi all,
I bought a car about 10 days ago. The car was serviced before I bought it but they forgot to get the book stamped. So, they got it stamped and sent it to me by Royal Mail 2nd class signed for. However, the tracking doesn’t show it moving since they posted it last Wednesday which makes me extremely scared it might be lost
I was wondering if anyone could advise where I stand please? Am I in my right to take the car back as it’s no longer as described? Or could I ask for some Money back? I may be jumping the gun but I am starting to think it’s lost.

Good luck with that.Am I in my right to take the car back as it’s no longer as described? Or could I ask for some Money back?
The dealer has done the service and stamped the book. Then posted it.
Second class can take up to a week. Give it until next Monday to arrive.
Worst case scenario you may have to pay a few quid for a duplicate service book.

Most of them were BMW main dealer so I valued them. A lot of people just look for stamps anyway really, as Invoices are easily lost.
I bought a BMW without a service book (knowing that it had been fully serviced as it was a company car). The lease company who had owned it were surprisingly very helpful in providing me with the garages where the car was worked on and a quick phone call to each dealer and they gave me details of when and what was done (and how much it cost!) and also offered to stamp a service book if I visited with one.Whether it's worth bothering doing is another matter - I found out the history for my peace of mind and didn't bother buying a new book.

No I insist on invoices anyone can get a stamp invoices carry much more weight than a stamp in a book, bac on topic just relax the post office will only be getting back on track today so your book will come.the dealer tracked it so leave it a couple of days & you're book will be with you.

Ring BMW customer services and ask them to email you a copy of the work carried out, then order a service book from your local dealer. Go through the print out of the history contact each dealer ask if they are happy to stamp the book and return it to you (most of them will do)ZX10R NIN said:

Anyone can fake an invoice these days, probably easier than getting a fake stamp.the dealer tracked it so leave it a couple of days & you're book will be with you.

Has the book turned up OP.The services done by BMW are not 'lost' so their value still exists, BMW will sell you (or the dealer) a replacement service book into which they will add the service records off their system.
Have you actually seen the service book, was it present when you viewed the car?
