Bargain or disaster waiting to happen?
Discussion
Just doing my usual auto trader prowl when I can’t sleep and stumbled across this

I have always loved the C63 and would say it’s in my top 10 cars. The exhaust note is just amazing!!
Is this the bargain or the century or a really bad idea?

It's not by default a disaster but there could of course be some significant running costs associated with a car like that, including the fuel bill.
The mileage isn't so much an issue, the engine is more than capable and the rest of the car up to the job as well. As with buying any 'proper' AMG, you want to ensure it has a proper service history ideally from a dealership or a specialist. If it hasn't been run on the cheap than it could be a great car for the money. Just don't underestimate the potential costs and it's worth a though.

If you're genuinely keen then why not just get a comprehensive inspection done by someone like DEKRA https://www.dekra-expert.co.uk/vehicle.inspections...
Will tell you everything you need to know for £390 and any issues they come back with you can use to haggle on the price.

I have a more ordinary C Class but it's interesting reading comments on the MB forums from people who run this kind of car. I know one member just bought the previous generation model, C55, for £6K, put it into his indie and identified £6K worth of work. He seemed quite happy about that - but couldn't afford to get it all done at once.
Some C63 owners find changing the rear tyres every 4K and 12MPG gets a bit much after a while.
Older cars like this baffle me a bit - unless you're a mechanic for the brand you need to be able run them without thought of the cost. But if you can afford to do that then likely you wouldn't be looking at one of this age.

Got to agree. A friend of mine ran one for a couple of years and averaged 15MPG and a new set of rears every 6k, He also advised buying only the best tyres possible (PS4S etc.) as otherwise they are an absolute nightmare in anything approaching wet or cold conditions.
As above OP, with it being considerably cheaper than any other comparible C63 out there make sure you get an inspection done before you buy rather than after..

I disagree as someone who's run & has a CLK63 now I can't agree, yes rear tyres will have to be changed between 4-6k with fronts easily seeing 10-12k (my brothers M3 is the same, my RS4 was every 7k for all four) now apart from servicing & two sets of discs & pads (one on the C63/CLK63) I've had no extra costs apart from servicing which is taken care of by my specialist Indy, yes it drinks fuel at 17mpg around town 26mpg on a run is what I consider good when you consider it's a 6.2 V8.
My brothers 4.0 V8 does the same 17 around town with 28mpg on a run, with the car above the possible issues will be suspension & brakes, the drivetrain is nigh on bulletproof.

f reading on these since this morning, I'm quite encouraged by what I read to be honest, heavy fuel costs and tyres are to be expected with this kind of car, a friend of mine who owns one seemed very positive about the lack of common issues on these, I think i'll be going to view the car if the OP doesn't beat me to it and having a good review of the service history.
I'd certainly never dream of buying a car like this without a through inspection

A bit more info on their website and they do have quite a bit of decent looking stock.
It's up for £12,995 on there interestingly.

I called the dealer, he confirmed the price is £11995, he stated the price has just been reduced, hopefully viewing it on Friday morning first thing on the way to work. It's up for £12,995 on there interestingly.

Morning all,
I wanted to update the thread for anyone still.interested in it.
So I arrived at the dealers this morning only to receive a text saying sorry running late back from London with more cars, will be there at 10:30. That doesn't help me as I was going early to go before work so I must admit that got my back up straight away.
Thankfully the car was parked outside the unit amongst other high end cars so I got to look at it from outside and get the reg for an MOT history check.
My initial impressions are very good, I can't find a mark anywhere on the bodywork, wheels are perfect, brakes look very good minimal wear, interior I could see through the window looks very good too.
My only issue at the moment is the front tyres are getting low on tread, the backs look almost new and all matching Pirelli rubber, will be a negotiating point.
I intend to call the dealer later today to discuss things in more detail and hopefully come back in the morning to get a proper look at it.

t description to start with, how much service history and how much evidence big expenses like brakes/tyres/suspension have been changed is more important.
