Hi guys!
New one to the forum here. Never really was big on cars but that’s seen a big change in the last year.
Basically; I’m looking to switch out my current- a 1.4 Astra- for something a bit...well...faster?
My pals and I like to have a little fun on convoys and mine is lagging in the power department.
Due to various insurance reasons, I need something smaller than a 2 litre; ideally that’s quick as stock, with plenty of mod potential, so a turbo would be great- if I’m right in saying that’s the easiest way to get power gains?
Not a massive fan of Renaults, and my budget isn’t great- looking at about £5K- for something younger than ‘07!
For reference- I’m up against a 1.6 Fiesta ST (2016) and a 1 series BMW 118

Alfa Mito Cloverleaf proven reliable drivetrain plus it's something a bit different as well as being a good steer:

Or the same drivetrain in the bigger Giulietta:

I'd say a warm hatch may be the way to go as you land an insurance friendly swift set of wheels:
Megane GT:

1.6T Astra GTC SRI

Corsa VXR which has the same engine as the above:

2.5T C30 T5 SE Lux I know you said 2.0 mak but these normally come up with some sensible numbers insurance wise.

I think I'd be looking for an Astra VXR, even if it is a 2 litre!
Or a Focus ST, which like the Volvo suggestion is a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder.
Strange nobody has mentioned the Golf GTi yet!
But if the size of car doesn't matter I think I'd be looking for a Mini Cooper S - they just drive so well.

I have thought about the VXR. My issue with cars like that and the ST is that most insurers won’t have me. I haven’t had my licence long enough and I’m under 25, so they either won’t quote me or they want me to pay a stupidly high premiumhttps://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

What are the Meganes like now? I’ve always heard bad things about their reliability- is it as bad as they say? Looks wise they’re up there for me https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
