Can anyone tell me if this thing is four wheel drive? Not mentioned on advert and never owned a Subaru. More importantly, is it any good? Would be a second car for doing the 30 mile round trip to work and back and taking stuff to the tip now and then.

Yes that's 4wd, road tax can be high as can fuel consumption.

Yes, 4x4, but it's not a super-tax model. The 3 litre cars produce more carbons, so those registered after 3rd weeks of March 2006 get the high VED rate .

Fuel consumption expectations vary, but running costs are not only about fuel consumption.

The non-turbo petrol Subaru boxer engines are very tough and the cars are generally very well engineered, so in our experience have been capable of long term use and high mileage without component failure. We had a pair of 3 litre Outbacks for a total of 10 years. They were used for everything including towing horse and track car trailers and we had no breakdowns. A few anti roll bar drop links, a CV gaiter and a pair of front suspension bushes were the only non service items that were needed...in 10 years!

Their heavy fuel consumption and high VED were moderately small prices to pay for the excellent service and lack of disintegration.

You pays your money and takes your choice!
