I saw the following on Facebook this morning:

A LR3 (or Discovery 3 for people on the other side of the pond) for $3,000. WOW!

I looked a little further and found some more info on the car. It reads as follows:

advert said:
This vehicle is AMAZING! Yes it has 235,000 miles on it, but everything is completely new under the hood!. New hoses & coolant lines, new coils, new alternator, new spark plugs, relays, fuses, and new custom EZ-Purge blow-off value for coolant system. New air compressor for suspension. The interior is in incredible shape.it has black leather seats with perforated aluminum inlays that look real sharp. All three rows have been maintained impeccably and the third row still has new car smell on it! This truck was made to climb mountains, cross deserts and venture into jungles oh, and with new guts, you can go another three hundred thousand miles on it!. It has a clean title and no accidents. Also, it has 19 in Range Rover alloy rims with new Pirelli Scorpion tires.

This vehicle sets itself apart with a forward brush guard, bullnose mounted bracket, which, alone sells for $800.
And you know what? I am extremely tempted to go and buy the thing!

As I said in the title, I think I might have lost my mind...wobble

I'm still on the fence.

But surely the wheels, interior and body panels have to be worth at least $3k...???

Is it worth the money as a non-runner, because "oh, and with new guts, you can go another three hundred thousand miles " would concern me.

Is there a sweet spot with higher mileage cars - high enough mileage that everything that wears out has been replaced, but not too high that it all needs replacing for the second time? When were all the new bits actually fitted?

But yes, get it bought, then create a thread in 'readers' cars' so we can enjoy your financial ruin and ongoing despair vicariously.

I’d sooner put it on red at the casino, or coke and hookers.

Driving around in that would be like wearing some unwashed Turkish wrestlers jock strap. You may look ok from the outside but you know it’s plain wrong.

Bargain. It would be rude not to buy it Moose. 7 seats, air suspension, V8, luxury all for 3 bags of sand.

If you give me the VIN I'll check the Carfax for you.

Just sent the VIN on PM. I'm kinda worried about what'll come back! Ha

Extensive history. 4 owners, spent most of it's life in Colorado. Originally purchased in Ohio. Extensive service history with Land Rover Dublin for owner 1 and Land Rover Denver East and Highlands Ranch while with owners 2 and 3. Current owner bought it last August. Until he bought it the car was almost always serviced at LR main dealers. Last LR dealer service was 6/13/16 at 205,794 miles.

It has 2 accidents reported, in 2010 and 2012 at 120k miles. Air bags not deployed on first, no info on second. Owner kept it for 16 months after the second. Traded in at Auto nation who sold it in 14 days in 2013.

If it drives well it has to be worth $3k? It's definitely a 7 passenger? It's an SE and unfortunately it's too old for me to pull the invoice.

I've been told that some repair jobs on these vehicles involves lifting the body off the chassis to get to the back of the engine?

Happy to be corrected on that, but could be one of the reasons these cars go cheap.

They drive really, really well.

I picked one up for dealer 2 weeks ago, had done loads of miles, drive really well.

And I used one as a tow car many years ago, moving Defenders around with a trailer, now that's some weight behind. Did it really well.

Like 235,000 miles?!

I have ridden in LR3 and LR4 many times (although they are Disco 3 and 4 as they were in the UK) and I like them a lot. Nice places to be.

Certainly on the Range Rover Sports with the V8 diesel on that chassis that's the case, I don't know about petrol V8 Discovery 3s, but it seems quite possible.

$3000 seems cheap enough to at least look. And if you go for it, please do a Readers Cars thread
