Hi guys, need to change my current car (Astra GTC 3dr 120bhp) for something more practical. Baby arrival means it needs to be 5dr and have isofix.

Some other info

Power wise I'm happy around the 120mark
Nothing to sporty that will reduce ride quality
30+mpg
Tax band probably no more than 155
Definitely petrol (8,000miles per year)
£6000 max

(Oh and the Astra has terrible speakers, so something with a better Soundsystem. Not massively important though)

I have a Citroen cactus currently that I'm perfectly happy with.

As a commuter/child carrying car it's perfectly fine.

Not dynamically the best car ever but I've got my Elise for that.

I have the diesel that has been very cheap to run but I hear the puretech petrol is also very good.

Highest powered petrol model is 110bhp but only weighs around a ton so not glacial by any stretch.

Not sure they have fallen to your price range yet but they weren't too far off when i was looking last year.

Marmite looking thing though. I love it, most don't though ha!

Yeah I've been looking at the puretech engines myself, but like you said it's Marmite in the looks department and unfortunately doesn't do it for me. But I've heard a lot of good things about them.

A couple of focus 1.6 Ecoboosts have popped up in the area, thoughts on the engine ?

I'd just get a Mondeo estate, probably the best option.

Crazy suggestion, feel free to reject it.

But have you thought about a Prius? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
Cheap road tax (a tenner!), should do 50+mpg and will definitely fall below your budget.

I bet you didn't think you would get recommended a Prius now, did you? laugh

I hate SUVs/MPVs but their larger doors make it a lot easier to load young children into the modern bulky child seats.
