Looking for some advice please guys. Ive asked the diesel petrol on here and got my awnser greatly appreciated.
I drive diesel 1.7 ix35 se nav but only doing about 3600 to 4000 per year, mostly all short runs in and around town. Im a retired person that does some volantry work. ( port & seafarers chaplain).
Ive been shown by my nearest Hyundai dealer a nice Tuscon (i have fancied owning one of these for a while but lack of funds) what ive been shown is se nav tuscon blue drive( what ever that is) on a 17 plate with 18,000 miles thats not an issues but it has a 1.6 gdi engine would that be ok for me poodling about locally. I know sod all about cars/ engines really. I only know what you guys have said that no way should i be on a diesel with such low mileage. Woild reall appreciate some help/ advice. I would like the tuscon but its the 1.6 engine, ive only seen pictures of the car its coming from another dealer next week for me to see and have a test drive. Finance/ cost etc has all been sorted, its just this engine. Thanks in anticipation guys.

Have you looked at the Kia Sportage? That is a similarly styled car which seems very popular.

Sticking with the brand, wouldn't something smaller and petrol be better, like the Hyundai Kona, hey you might even consider electric (budget may be an issue).
My ignorance is wonderful here...
But do diesel engines need more ad blue/servicing with shorter distances like this. As per the OP surely given the choice petrol, hybrid or electric are better choices for town short distance driving.
Therefore any offer on the diesel Tuscon from the dealer is just their best attempt at shifting stock and getting you to trade in for something shiney and a different configuration or vehicle would be more suitable to your driving needs...

Firstly, get a petrol because diesel is the wrong choice for local journeys and 4,000 miles a year. Secondly, you say they have reduced the APR to single figures as if they've done you a favour but it's not a good deal.
You are buying the wrong car and paying too much for it. Lose / lose.

Just for clarity, the GDi engine is a petrol. I think some posters are seeing the "D" and assuming it is diesel.
GDI stands for Gasoline Direct Injection, but I understand how it can be confusing. Hyundai should have instructed the media to use its series name, the Gamma engine... but outside of Europe you don't really see many diesel passenger cars so I guess they didn't really think of it.

Either I am blind or you are physic but I can't see any figures from OP to say what his deal is or how much he is paying for it. Also the OP said that he had got the APR down ‘into single figures’- which sounds too high.

Is there a worry with injector carbon build up on these type of engines or is it okay with the UK spec petrol.The knowledge you guys have totally amazes me, i can navigate you round the worlds oceans, but cars!! Horses for courses i guess.

You can but ask but don't be surprised if they are not keen to do so.
Assuming you are part exchanging the ix35, they could argue they have given you a part ex value based on the car as is, a worn set of tyres could mean more cost to them when it comes to selling your part ex if they intend to put it on their forecourt for sale.
On the other hand they might say yes, so no harm in asking. They might be prepared to do it at a cost to you.
