Dealer service stamps - How much are they worth to you?
Discussion
Greetings,
Following up on this old topic: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Eventually my friend ended up buying a fully equipped 2017 Kia Sorento from a generic Yorkshire dealership. The car in question had very low mileage and has been serviced exclusively by the local Kia dealer until it went up for sale. As part of the deal, it had its most recent service done by the seller just prior to delivery.
Now the new owner is wondering if a generic service stamp is good enough, or if it's going to hurt the car's residual value down the road. Would you recommend paying another 99 quid to repeat the service at the local Kia dealer's and get an official stamp? Would it matter to you if you were buying it 2nd hand? Keep in mind, the car's currently worth around 30k and he intends to keep it for the next 2-3 years.
Thanks.

Its going to make no difference on that, if he is worried about residuals then he may have purchased the wrong car.
The only important thing is to find out if they used genuine filters, Kia are a little bit funny about aftermarket filters and warrantys.
Warranty would be my concern here - I believe that the law states that a service may be carried out outside the dealer network without invalidating the warranty as long as genuine manufacturer parts are used in the service. Aftermarket filters would fall foul of this IMHO.The only important thing is to find out if they used genuine filters, Kia are a little bit funny about aftermarket filters and warrantys.
OP, I would suggest your friend confirm that genuine Kia parts were used and if not, talk to the Kia dealer (or maybe even customer services) to see if they'll forgive the digression if the service is repeated at a dealer.
A Kia at 5 years old with an invalid warranty will be worth less than one (in a similar condition) that still has a couple of years' warranty to run.
Have a word with the Kia dealer and see if the warranty is still valid. If it isn't see if getting it serviced by them would help.
Consider it paying for a warranty rather than a service. Kia come with a 7 year warranty that is supposed to be very good indeed so don't invalidate it by accident.
