Looking to finalise my purchase everything works well for me (car I want, spec, reasonable price negotiated) with one exception:

- the car was registered on 1st March 2018, it has done just under 11k miles
- service schedule for the car is every year or 12.5k miles
- dealer emphasised I need to pick the car up this month

i.e., I feel like they are trying to push the car off on me before they have to do the service. Am I being a complete arse to think it should have even been serviced already or they should service it and we keep the agreed price?

Which make of car? Some have rules that say the car shouldn't need any work for 3000 miles / 3 months.

Dealers don't normally service cars in advance of sale, in case the car gets punted off to auction.

You shouldn't 'expect' it, you should've negotiated it into the deal.

They want you to pick it up this month so it goes against their sales figures this month, unlikely to be to avoid a service. As has been said, you should have negotiated it as technically it doesn't need a service at the moment.

Honda.

Haven't seen the car yet so haven't had chance and it was something I forgot to ask. I feel it's a bit underhand of the dealer and they knew exactly why but failed to mention.

Down to you to have checked all of this before doing the deal. Why would a dealer give things away for free?

How much will the service cost out of interest?

£180. Agreed it is down to me but when they quote "we need you to collect before the end of the month" it'd be nice of them to clarify.

To be fair it’s pretty obvious as to why (sales target). However, a simple ‘why’ from you would clarify and then give you the chance to counter with ‘sure, as long as you include the next service in the price’.

I don’t see anything underhand by the dealer.

I had assumed it was because of sales before the end of the month. Only after putting a deposit down did it occur to me.

Thick on my part I agree but is it really a don't ask don't tell attitude.

Have they actually said they won't service it as part of the deal?

Neither of us mentioned - just asked. I intended to buy a service plan anyway so hopefully we can just come to agreement.

I would suspect it will be done as part of the prep, You will hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

^ This.

Have you asked the question?

It needs servicing by 28th Feb - I think Honda customer service has gone right down the drain, but you may find they do it without even being asked. Certainly I would expect it to be done once you draw their attention to it.

Thanks all. I'll confirm with the dealer.

Best case it was included all along, worst case I become a grumpy arse and ask for a discount off the service plan. Sure we'll come to an agreement!
