Private Seller selling 2014; 3 owner; 39000 miles vehicle for £19k
They have indicated that they will take dealer trade if not sold since they have ordered a new car.
WBAC indicates £15k
Surely there is a good deal to be had at say £15.5k since Dealer would not be offering much greater than WBAC?

A lot of people just say "Will trade in otherwise" to try and give the impression of a bargain.

WBAC is generally a few £k below the normal trade price. Depends on the car I suppose.

Why would they take your £15.5k when private retail is probably £17k+

WBAC price is a trade price. You're not buying at trade prices, you're buying at (private) retail

Thanks for your reply. Obviously I am not aware of how to arrive at the figure of £17K+ that you quoted.
Can I ask how you arrived at that figure?

Probably much the same way you arrived at £15.5k.

Yes they are probably chancing their luck at £19k - all you can do is make an offer and see what happens. However if the dealer is keen on the car it is quite possible he is offering more than you think (ie you are basing on WBAC which I increasingly find is low ball).
