We have a requirement for an auto 5 door and want a decent turn of speed / all round ability.

Ideally, car would be new or nearly new.

Will be used as a DD and must be 5 door as we need to occasionally transport the elderly in laws.

Primary candidate so far would seem to be the M140i of which there are some stonking deals about.

We dont particularly want an A35, as we'd an A45 previously and i think with spec it will be £40K ish

Audi S3 is a possibility.

Renault Megane RS 300 Trophy auto?

O/H hates Golfs so dont presently want to go there even though i think the Golf R and GTI would be good cars to try.

O/H also hates SEATs.

Dont really want a 5 door MINI.

Any other things we should be looking at?

Thanks in advance smile

Polo GTi. Bigger than you might think and you could get a new one with change to spare.

I would have said Mini Clubman Cooper S but given Mini's are off the list other than a Leon Cupra or Volvo V40 i'd probably go with the Megane option, or Jag E pace for something different.

Yes,we've a Cooper S 3 door hatch and love it. I cant warm to the 5 door variant and i just dont like the Clubman. frown

I was in a similar boat and went down the route of the M140. The new car deals available make a year old one look very expensive.

I was tempted by the new Golf GTI TCR and was offered a pretty good deal on one but having looked at a normal GTI I was left pretty underwhelmed compared to the M140 which surprised me because it’s bigger, better packaged and I like the new virtual cockpit gubbins.

There are some very good deals on Leon Cupra’s too but I just don’t want one. Not sure why.
