What's the most economical commuting car I can get for £8k - Page 1 - Car Buying

Depends on the length of commute, how long spent in traffic and kind of speeds reached.

2nd hand Prius probably but big miles and higher speed would better suit a diesel.

We bought a second hand Renault Zoe for a lot less than that. Free electricity at work and no VED makes it pretty cheap to run, even taking into account the battery lease.

2L or smaller diesel for economy, pre-DPF to avoid problems, auto transmission so no worries about clutch and dmf and Japanese for reliability. But you'll be bored.

If it's all about economy get a scooter it'll also be the fastest way to commute & pocket the rest.

I’ve got a leaf.
14 mile commute, 3 mile school run, 5 miles per night minimum being Dads taxi.

Passat 1.6tdi or Golf 1.6tdi in particular a bluemotion one

I can massage a genuine 58mpg out my passat keeping just under 70!

Some small cars are actually not as economical as you think when you start doing faster road / motorway work!

What kind of roads and how long is the commute, you might want to have somewhere relatively nice / comfortable to sit!
