Used Car Tax price

I have just bought myself a new car to me that is 18 months old. I knew that I would have to tax the vehicle on collection and I was under the impression that it would be £140 to tax for 12 months as it is a July 2017 vehicle. I was not made aware nor did the advert mention that the list price of this particular vehicle was over the £40,000 threshold as the list price when new with no extras was circa £36,000. Do you think the dealer should have made me aware of the list price and hence the increased road tax or do I just take it on the chin.

I did try and explain my displeasure when at the dealership but my comments fell on deaf ears.

Just after an opinion really should dealers make buyers aware of the list price of a vehicle when new if it is near the £40,000 mark as I have no way of finding out online.

I am sure they would have told me if I asked but it did not occur to me that it was over £40k when new

Prepare your chin for a , erm, taking OP. Checking the cost of VED is a pretty high on the list of things a buyer should check (imo), be it from a dealer or otherwise.

probably didnt occur to them that anyone would buy a car without checking their VED liability.

40k really isnt a lot these days, easy to go over that if speccing a nice car.

Afraid it's your mistake not theirs, they're selling a car, and are responsible for making sure their description is accurate, and that theyre legally allowed to sell it, and they didnt buy it from some geezer in a car park.

As it is 18 months old you can be thankfull you only have another 18 months of the increase RFL

The increase lasts for the first 5 years, not 3

I think if the road tax is a consideration when buying a particular car then it's your own responsibility to check what the cost will be in my opinion.
