35K, 4 doors, 4WD, 5k a year .. go

Let's see if the Pistonheads collective can come up with a few suggestions other than my own ..
I've 30-35K to spend on a car. I don't mind if it's new or used but would prefer up to 4 years old, unless there's something like 8-10 years old that really jumps out. Finance wise it's either savings/loan or PCP dependant on the deal. It's not something that needs discussed. I'm a big boy, I'll make my own decision over finance.
I walk to work, I do around 5K a year, generally around town on taxi duty with my daughter, gym, shops and the occasional trip away. I'm up in Aberdeen, so there are plenty nice driving roads up here but I don't drive them very often. A lot of my trips are short so not good for any car really, but there's not much point of me having anything diesel or something that won't even warm fluids up while I sit at traffic lights.
I'm currently driving a JCW with the pro-exhaust. It's not far off what I need really but it's a little small, and it's harsh around town banging into all the potholes. I don't mind the fact it's a manual, but realistically an auto would be a better bet. My wife has an MX-5 so I'm covered for fun, but as we get pretty poor weather up here and she got stuck last year I would like something that has 1/2 a chance of moving in snow. I don't have a garage to store separate wheels/tyres.
Noise is very important to me, so it probably needs to be something other than a 4 cylinder. I like something discreet. I've done the shouty Porsche/Mustang/Subaru but I'm now old and grey
I'd like 4/5 doors and nothing too big, hatch preferably ..
Current thinking is an Audi RS3 hatch. I had an S3 before and it didn't last long, shouldn't have bought a Sepang Blue one (they are everywhere) and although it was quick, it sounded crap and I didn't like the suspension. I'm hoping an RS3 will sort a) the noise and b) the suspension if I get one with the mag ride.
Quite like the Mercedes C43 AMG, maybe a bit chintzy ..
Ruled out a saloon M3, don't like the noise and would be utterly hopeless in bad weather
A45 AMG, hmm 4 pot, is it any fun at town speeds?
New-ish S4? Too dull/big?
Any suggestions?
