Hi Everyone,

We are moving home and I need to raise an extra £100k; so to help do this I am selling/have sold my 5 current cars as below:

Range Rover Vogue
Subaru WRX GB270
Renault Clio Trophy
Renault Clio Petrol Blue 182
Renault Clio Racing Blue 182 Cup

Once they have all gone (looking like this Sunday) I will be in need of a runabout. I have a new Landrover which does family duties, and as I work from home my wife uses this most of the time. There is however the odd ocassion I need to pop out, visit a client or collect the baby from Nursery.

I am therefore in needs of a sub £10,000 ocassional use car that covers the following:

- 4/5 doors for rear access
- Automatic because the odd drive can be far away in rush hour
- 4wd a big plus
- Fairly quick and actually fun to drive

The obvious choice to me seems to be the MK5 Golf R32 5dr with DSG!? Even the GTI if you scrap the 4wd element seems a fair bet. Especially as I’m a hot hatch fan!

The question is; am I missing anything obvious?

Thank you,
Chris

S6 perhaps a little mature for me; I had looked at the S3 but prices seem high and prefer the Golf. Perhaps an S4 is worth a look......

As you are selling a Subaru I take it youre a fan - what about a JDM import forester or legacy? Theyd tick all of your boxes.

Being honest I’m not actually a big fan, I just like iconic and rare cars, the Subaru I have now is almost too loud and fast for me. I’m more of a person that buys to own rather than to drive if that makes any sense lol!

Alfa Romeos are certainly something I hadn’t looked at and like so thanks for that. I will get researching!

Current shortlist:

R32
S3 Sportback
S4 Avant

I like the S4 Avant, ticks lots of boxes and good tuning options as well.

A6 3.0T. S6 performance without the running costs of the 5.2. Has the same engine as the S4, but considerably larger than the S4. Cheaper too.

We had the exact same dilemma as you, but went with the Audi. Did look hard for a LCI 335i saloon but struggled hard with that, as rare as the A6. Anything from merc becomes too old, 2008 ish.
