VW or Skoda Citigo

Does he enjoy sitting for 10 minutes in winter waiting for condensation to disappear enough to drive anywhere? Every time the car is left for any period of time, like say half an hour? If so, Citigo all the way. TADTS.
I had one for 3 months. Awful awful crock of poo.
Replaced it with a fiesta ST. Worth every penny it cost to change, in depreciation and additional cash. Heated seats and windscreen were brilliant, let alone the much better performance, handling, kit, etc etc.

They are not that good then. He would love an ST it’s out of his budget and the insurance would be too high. What are the 1.0 Fiestas like, with the Turbo?I had one for 3 months. Awful awful crock of poo.

I have heard about the condensation issues on the VW Up! forum. I had a Street Up for 2 and half years. Brilliant little car, with a good level of standard equipment. It had the 75bhp 1.0 litre engine and was sprightly and great fun to chuck around B roads. Didn’t feel out of its depth on the motorway either. I had one of those little condensation cushions chucked on the parcel shelf and had no condensation issues. It was frugal, cheap to run and I would recommend one based on my experience.

I had a service pack as I bought it as an ex demo, so 2 services free in the time I had it. During the time I had it, I had no problems other than the maps and more set up wouldn’t always stream music via Bluetooth. That was the only thing that ever bothered me and all of the other positive aspects of the ownership experience outweighed that. Went through one set of front tyres, which was the only thing I had to replace. I’d have another, they really are that good, imho.

HTH. If he is buying new, CarWow is worth a shout. Failing that, just trawl autotrader and see what’s out there. I found mine on autotrader. Not worth buying second hand on PCP (if he is considering that, as APR is daft).

My mum and dad have a Citigo, the lower power Monte Carlo one.
They bought it ex demo for about your budget, and given it was loaded with extras I thought it a bit of a bargain. I’ve driven it a couple of times, and I’ve got to say I loved it! If I lived in a city with a relatively short commute I’d definitely be interested.
Of course they are the same cars really, so I guess it’s up to do you want a VW badge for more money, or a Skoda badge for less (no criticism intended)

I hired a citigo in Slovenia and drove to the lakes in it, using the motorway to get to the airport after.
Far from fast but thought it was quite a laugh and felt like a bigger car than it was, in a good way. Miles better than the aygo I test drove 2 years ago, tinny old thrash box, that.
I would go for a year old ex demo with Pcp than say something 3 years or older and HP. But old people love cars like this so there could be a few on autotrader with high spec and low miles. I'd get a loan before HP on a 2nd hand car.

Don't know, I've only ever driven the ST (which was great, and I would now like the new one), although my father has a Titanium Mk 7 which he seems to really like and is well spec'd. He has one of the last ones, you could probably get a slightly older one for 7-8k I'd have thought. I really cannot re-iterate how much I hated the Citigo after a couple of months. My wife thought the same as well. I couldn't get rid of the condensation no matter what I did. It was underpowered so that if you came up behind an idiot in a diesel dawdling down a motorway sliproad you were in trouble. I sold it to WBAC for almost 2k less than I paid for it 3 months and very few miles before, and was still delighted to get rid of it.
I've had a 16 plate Citigo as a second car for a couple of months, and I think it's a great car for what it is - a runabout for local journeys. It's far more comfortable and refined than the Panda that it replaced, and has enough power to keep up with normal traffic. Easy to drive and park, and does 60mpg on short runs.
I wouldn't want to drive it all day on motorways, given the choice. It can do it, just wouldn't be fun.
