For travel to work purposes I need a car-any car will do- for 3 months.

What is the cheapest way to do this?

It seems a bit long to be renting and not long enough to be worth buying a second hand car for.

Are there any other alternatives which will simply allow me to walk away after 3 months?

Parents have a minging (from dogs) ‘54 fiesta fiesta with 86k miles and ticket to October they’d sell for £150

Can always scrap it when done and get half your cash back - never let them down but getting a little rough round the edges

There is car lease take over sites, not sure how good they are.....

Some rental companies rent cars by the month, which is great value (if you consider there is no maintenance, no selling fees/ hassle etc)

Would an electric car work for you? https://www.evezy.co.uk/

Evezy seems to be a 1 month minimum deal, and includes tax and insurance. If you look on the lease deals thread, someone on there recently posted a £50 off code.

Look for a local independent hire company (not a national chain) and have a word with them about a deal for 3 months.
I expect they will be more than accommodating to your request.

Any idea what I should be looking for as a ball park price for that?

Sorry to be so thick, I've had no car for 18 months and before that I owned the same car for 6 years

25 to 30 Mon to Fri. Probably another 30 at the weekend so maybe 180 miles a week.

Why do you ask?

Currently renting a BMW i3 120ah from EVEZY as mentioned above by another poster and you could probably get away with a charge a week.

Cost is £399 a month (discounted to £350 if you use a referral code wink) and includes insurance, charging etc. which for your use would probably be a saving of £100 a month over renting an ICE vehicle in fuel alone? Rental periods are monthly so can cancel whenever you want and no large deposit upfront unlike most rental firms.

Something to consider perhaps?

Buy a ex fleet motability car from BCA at trade price run for three months then sell privately at a profit.

Didn't realise making money was that easy, makes you wonder why everyone isn't doing it?

Out of interest how much will need putting down up front to purchase said vehicle?

When I was in a similar situation between cars I used Flexifleet who are linked to Thrifty:

https://www.thrifty.co.uk/long-term-car-hire.htm#

They were very helpful and have a large range to choose from. You’ll need to insure it separately but they will put you in touch with brokers who specialise in the this kind of short term cover. I had a car on a rollling monthly deal and they were happy for me to cancel whenever I needed and calculated the cost to the nearest day.

I picked and dropped off the car at my local Thrifty, but I think they also offer a ‘deliver to your house’ service.

OP I was in the same position as you.

I recently bought a shed for £700 - a 2004 MINI Cooper which is actually way better than the price I paid for it.

My reason for taking this approach was that I can use the car stress free and then resell the car for similar money after my lease arrives vs pay out for a short term lease and see no return.

I like the Cooper so much I might just keep it

Deposit 10% of hammer price plus indemnity which would be heavily discounted for account holders.

Stress free?

What happens if it goes pop or throws up an expensive bill in the next 3 months as 15 year old sheds can have a habit of doing? Then take into account how much fuel would be costing you to do 800 miles a month, how much your monthly insurance cost is, RFL etc, and then the hassle and cost of finding said shed (assuming you don't buy the first car you see) and the the similar hassle and cost of selling it in 3 months. You're also assuming you'll get back what you paid for it which is never guaranteed.

All the major hire firms do 30day rentals.

I used. Europcar last year when in between cars for 6mths and paid £340/mth for a new Astra. 70miles per day cap, just add fuel.

Might be worth buying a shed, as your NCD is going to die in six months, and I suspect you wouldn't want that.
