325 or A4 TFSI? Or...?

I'm sure there's been similar threads and articles, in fact I know there have because I've read many, but thought I'd start a new and more specific one. Thoroughly expecting partisan responses but here goes anyway:
Which is better to own? The E90 325 or B7 A4 2.0 TFSI Quattro?
I do a mix of driving but the non-negotiable bits are B road slingability and a comfortable motorway car. I'm not a stickler for a snazzy cabin but I do like the solid feel of the Audi. My heart is probably slightly more towards the BMW and my frugal side notes that you get more Audi for your money.
Economy is generally a good thing but not enough to consider diesels.
Obviously any car that's a few years old can have problems but the fewer and cheaper thr better.
I've narrowed it down to these two over lots of looking, but am open to suggestions.
A good 330 at would make it an easy choice but they're just a bit out of my price range for a good one at the moment. Circa £3000.
Any thoughts?

I've not had an A4, so cannot comment on them.
I've always preferred RWD, and really like petrol straight 6 engines!
So I've had an E91 325i for just over a year and been very pleased with it. It drives remarkably well considering it's now done 139,000 miles! The only issues I've had with it were the electric water pump dying (they cost about £250 from Euro Car Parts) and needing a new battery. But I suppose you've got to expect things to go wrong on a 12 year old car.
I'll be selling it within your budget shortly as I managed to find an E90 330i with the split/fold rear seat option (although it cost a bit more)!
I wouldn't want to be paying £540 road tax on a £3K car either - £315 is bad enough!

Yes most cars seem to have some expensive Achilles heel and at that age something will go wrong.

It does look nice so thanks for the link! However it is auto, and I opted for an impulse buy this morning which enabled me to offload my old car at the same time. So now the proud owner of a 325! Driven it up to the end of the private road and have been on hold to my insurance company for most of the afternoon.
Well that's good news (in that you've found one) but bad news (in that I still need to sell mine)!
The way I see it is nobody makes N/A straight 6 RWD cars any more - 4 cylinder turbos with FWD will be around for much longer, so why not make the most of a straight 6 while you still can?
