Toyota RAV4 2.2 D-4D XT4 - Decent?

Looking for a second car for a 30 mile work round trip and other running about with, going to the tip etc..

Are these things any good? Or are the petrol ones more reliable etc? Cheers for any info.

Or would I be better just getting a petrol MK2/3 CRV?

I looked at one of these but got scared off by the stories of the head gaskets going on the 2.2D engine. Not sure how much of a 'thing' that is in reality, but it was enough to put me off. Shame, as I liked the rest of the car!
