Cheap to Insure Coupes?

Hello.

I am looking for a cheap to insure sports coupe, but I've searched and searched and they're all extremely expensive. I'm 19 years old and as such only have one year of No Claims Discount, but I'm tired of driving hatchbacks.

I've looked at the MX-5, the CLA (although a lot of heavy criticism on this car), the 2-Series, among many others. Obviously purchasing second hand but the car will be relatively new, probably around 3-4 years young.

I also feel that a lot of cars have very "old-looking" interiors, so if there are upgrades possible (such as a new head unit) or if they already come well equipped with technology - which I know a lot of you piston heads will hate - it would be quite nice.

Audi TT has an amazing Digital Dashboard, but that Insurance Group 30+ really kills it right away as an option for someone with a 1 year NCD.

Probably Group 25U in order to actually get an *"affordable"* insurance cost.

Pointless to recommend a car that you can't afford.

At 19 with only 1 year NCB you will find almost everything expensive to insure

Celica with the 140 bhp engine.
Get a facelift (post 2003) model and they are pretty much bullet proof, look good and if you spent £120 on some eibach springs they handle like a dream and the lowering really improves the looks.
Older than your target but a good starter coupe that won't break the bank.

Have you tried a scirocco? They did a 1.4 petrol that might be just what you’re lucky looking for.

That's what I was gonna say, owned one for 7 months, had antisocial exhaust and BGW, great little car, handles well and it's utterly reliable

Not quite sure what to make of the old interiors view, are you saying you need a tablet or two nailed to the dash?

The Celica suggestion is excellent (for a much older car than the OP wants) they really are at bargain price territory plus an insurance anomaly- £1-2k gets a fantastic choice of Celicas and you can fit a fancy double din stereo for all your stereo/bluetooth/phone/dab needs.



Budget would be helpful to make other suggestions.

Pretty sure that's a prefacelift interior too, the facelift is essentially the same but the darker plastics make it look even nicer. It's a lovely place to be
