£10k for an SUV/Crossover

Morning all,

After a bit of advice regards a new car purchase. Looking to get an SUV or Crossover type car for around the 10k mark. Will be paying cash and can stretch to 12k if required for the right car. Currently thinking Qashqai (probably the 1.2 petrol), Mitsubishi ASX 1.6 petrol or maybe the Skoda Yeti Outdoor with a TSI engine. Outsider is the Honda CR-V with the 1.6 Diesel engine.

It is definitely the SUV type car I am after, will mainly be for my wife and as a family car. Mainly used for a bit of everything, her commute is 20 mins with a bit of M27 but will also be used for the odd longer trip to Cornwall etc.

I have in the past bought many cars second hand privately but never spent more than £2k. Being an ex car mechanic and an enthusiast I am happy looking over cars, but a bit hesitant to spend near 10k private (though some good deals can be had it seems)

Is it worth spending the premium at a dealer for the piece of mind? I would probably go the approved used route if so. For whatever reason I find myself avoiding diesels after hearing various DPF problems etc.

So if you had 10k where would you spend it, what on, and why?

Yes it's a diesel but you're doing 12k a year which should see you alright, also they come loaded with kit such as adaptive cruise 360 cameras etc.

If you want a petrol then you'll be hard pressed to beat the 1.5T Ford Kuga in Titanium X/Titanium spec:

We love our CX5 Sport Nav (mk1 but facelifted from the versions linked above).

It’s a MUCH nicer place to be compared to the Qashqai it replaced but I think the leather electric memory seats and BOSE stereo help with that. It’s also significantly bigger both in cabin and load space.

Ours has the 2.0 petrol. It always returns 30’s mpg and will tease 40 mpg on a long run. The lack of low-down torque compared with a Derv or one of the turbocharged petrol VAG SUVs might put you off. But it has a lovely gearchange and likes to be revved so I don’t mind working to find the power.

I haven't driven one but take a look at the new Suzuki Vitara, very highly rated and within your budget.
