So I'm hoping to be in a position to buy a car towards the end of the year, perhaps next year. However, I like to do as much research as possible so I'd need to narrow my list down before I start looking in-depth at stuff.

I'll have around £15-18,000 to play with, including the part ex. Currently driving an Astra VXR which is the car I've owned for the longest. Still going strong and only on 67k for a 9 year old car.

I'm looking for something that's not too old and not too many miles, just something from 2010-2011 onwards. Other than that, maintenance costs are not to be astronomical but kind of come with the territory. There aren't many B roads around here that I go on often so something with brutal acceleration in-gear and off the line would fit the bill. Tax isn't an issue and I'm not too bothered about insurance group. I'd rather pay more to enjoy driving.

However, I'd like something quite a bit quicker. Hence the following list along with some commentary:

M3 - Obvious choice, driver's car, probably my second favourite at the moment.

Evo X - Just because of the tuneability of it. Interior leaves a lot to be desired but devilishly quick.

RS5 - The 4.2 V8, not many of these about which is why it would be a hard choice between this and an M3 were I to choose.

M135i / M140i - Would be one of the newest on this list and probably the best interior.

WRX STi - Would have to be a blobeye / hawkeye as not too keen on the hatch. I would have chosen one of these in a heartbeat were these the same price as they were a couple of years ago. One that was for the sale for 9-10k two years ago is now 14k.

Lexus IS-F - Never seen one in person so exclusivity is a plus. I've read that they are quite reliable.

C63 AMG - Absolutely love the sound of these (who doesn't?) but I never really liked them. I've started to change my mind lately though.

335d / 435d / 535d - I've looked at these and although they can be insanely quick, with the plus of MPG, I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much without the noise.

VXR8 - They're nice but why buy one of these when you could get one of the above?

Golf R - These pretty much fit the bill, except for the fact that I see at least 5 on every drive I go on. Throw and stone and you'd hit one.

S3 - '14 onwards and seem decently specced. Probably a lovely car to drive but I don't think it'd give me the thrill factor I'm seeking.

S5 - Could get a newer 3.0 TFSI S5 and remap but from what I've read, an RS5 is just a different beast altogether.

So yeah, apologies for the long post but I'd like some input. Are there any cars that I'm missing that I MUST look at?
