Hi,

I'm looking at two cars which have the un-commmon spec I want - brand new is an option, but a bit pricey for me!

So,
18 Reg but with delivery miles only - is 9 months old so will have been sitting unused on a forecourt.

Or for 20% less, a 66 Reg with FSH and 20K

Both are from franchised dealers.

18 Reg has balance of 3 year warranty but may have suffered slightly from zero use? Also attracts £145 VED
66 Reg has 12 month warranty, is 20% cheaper and only has £20 VED

Which would you choose?

That has to be your choice.

It's always nicer to have new (or newer) but the value of the 20% saving on the older model may be worth taking the older one. Depends on how much the saving means to you.

All other things being equal (apart from what you have said), the 18 reg.

I'd probably go for the 66 plate but I'd be using the 18 plate to negotiate a bigger discount.

I think it also depends how much cheaper each is from new...

But from what you’ve said, I’d probably pick the 18 plate.

In theory you'd lose the VAT element on a new car once driven away from the dealer.

I'd use this and the price of the pre-reg as a bartering tool on the 66 plate as someone mentioned above.

cheers

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to try a haggle on the 66 Reg.
