I currently have two cars as dailies

2017 M6
2004 Passat TDI Estate with 216k

I’ve owned the Passat for 10 years and really do like it. Typically use it for commute (which is dull), airport runs (frequent) and family trips around Europe. M6 gets used on weekends.

As much as I love the Passat it’s age and body work are working against it, especially when my employers give me a car allowance and I need to use it for business occasionally.

Looking to replace it with a much newer Passat. £10k gets me in a 2015/16 120k car, but I really want auto, and worry about bills.

Therefore, in usual fashion The budget has gone up, and I’m now looking at a 2018 ex demo 2.0 TDI 150 GT Estate DSG. Nice spec, seems a nice comfy boring car. In this case boring is good. This is about £20k, but should still get good money back in 3-4 years if mileage is sensible

Anything Else I should be considering?

Must haves:

Diesel - internal justification for the M6 is having another car with 50mpg+ average but I like the huge range and torque. Having a nice V8 means I don’t care about the diesel clatter
German & VAG - I much prefer them. Would consider another model if spec & value are better
Auto, lots of toys, leather if possible
Super comfy

Does it have to be an estate?

If it does then I'd say the Mondeo in Vignale form is the better car, it's the one I chose having supplied all of the cars in this class to various clients:

If you can live with a saloon then the Infiniti's are very good value, also because they use the same C/E220 Mercedes drivetrain servicing is easy & very sensible (when you buy the service pack they collect & deliver) running cost wise:

How does a Vignale compare to a Titanium for example, NVH, comfort, trim?

Also is Infinity still a good purchase with them leaving the UK

They're a bit quieter than the Titanium the trim is nicer the main thing like stalks etc is the same, the Ivory highlights the change best the seats are just that bit nicer overall than the Titanium plus I like the little touches at service time.

Infiniti is a very good brand to buy right now Nissan will still honor any warranty issues, with the Infiniti dealerships morphing into Nissan Premium centres, you can still buy service packs & extend warranties (I've just added an extra two years on a Q50h for another family member) so there's no issue with buying one especially the diesel because all Indys will be able to service it.
