BMW for me all the time.
Mind you I bought a 55 plate E90 330i just over a month ago so I just may be biased!
But I've always loved RWD cars anyway.
I was a passenger in a 3 litre Subaru Type R estate some years ago, and it didn't feel hugely quick even compared to the BMW 123d I had at the time - and to get into the same price for road tax as a 330i you'd need to find one registered before March 2006.

Following many enjoyable years with an Impreza turbo, I considered the 3.0R as a replacement, but it had all the same shortcomings as the Impreza (body made of tin foil, trim rattles and shiny plastics, and comedy running costs) but without the fun, charm or hooliganism of the Impreza which made every drive an event with an ear to ear grin. Quite disappointing but maybe it was my expectations which were out of whack

No weather issue for me - my 330i came with a spare set of wheels with winter tyres!
With those fitted I'm sure it would corner and stop better than a Scooby on Summers.
Totally get it and don't get my wrong it's a close run thing in my mind, the 330 is an epic car too.
However picture this:
"It's snowed love and I need to get to the shops" "no worries Hun, give me an hour and I'll have those winter wheels swapped over" meanwhile Subaru man is back from the shop and sipping on whiskey lol
My old 320d was awful in the snow, anything more than a slight incline and it was going sideways.

run winters/all seasons all winter and that problem doesn't exist, i commute 30k miles a year rain or shine in an auto 320d and it kept going right through the beast of the east last year no bother at allHowever picture this:

Well if you have winters you fit them in advance of the snow arriving! However picture this:

Whereas if Subaru-man is running summers he'll be sliding off the road at a corner, or unable to stop - all cars use 4 wheels to turn and stop!
But to be fair there probably isn't a wrong answer here.
