First car for 17yr old learner

Hello.
As a very indecisive 17yr old learner I am stuck on what car to go for.
Absolute max is £2500 if buying outright.
Finance is also an option, especially for newish cars.
I do not mind whatever fuel is used. I would not mind if manual or automatic, just no single clutch semi autos!
Priorities:
-Sufficient refinement to not make motorway drives tiring
-At least somewhat pleasant dynamics
-Cheap to insure (of course!)
-Reasonably reliable
I am open to many options.

My 18yr old twins share a 2009 Aygo - ticks all your boxes except dynamics (might be a big ask given the other constraints) and refined it isn't. However, it IS fine on the motorway for what it is - I've done a 300mile round trip in it without losing the will to live, and had it up to 90 (indicated) after changing the original tyres it came with. But it's not a regular long distance motorway car. When I saw the maintenance schedule I thought 'is that it?' because it seems you hardly have to do anything.

What's wrong with the earlier ones? Budget is £2.5KThe other car at that budget was the Fiat 500 / Ford Ka from 10-13, but more to go wrong, harder on suspension, for me the Aygo/107/c1 is a reasonably robust, simple car - good combination of PSA and Toyota know how.

On reflection I wonder if this thread is made up, just to drive some traffic to the web site, what other learner would say he isnt bothered if he has auto or manual ???????
Not the most obvious choice but how about a Mk5 Golf TDI (105 bhp so not excessive) .
My son bought his from family as we knew the history from new and it had very low miles etc. Expect you could get slightly older / higher miles Mk5 golf for your £2.5k budget.
It wasn't what we anticipated buying but on the plus side it easily does 60mpg and was very cheap to insure in my name when he was a learner. As this was an additional car I could not use my no claims discount but still only paid around £175 to insure it for the year. I got some rebate when he passed and we cashed it in. He used Veygo for temporary learner cover on top.
After he passed he got fully comp insurance on the Golf in his name with both parents as named drivers for £750 through tesco / insure the box. Thats with a black box but they all are these days.
Its not the most obvious choice for a 17 yr old so maybe that has helped bring down the premium but a golf is certainly more solid than say the Panda or Aygo we were contemplating and this one has airbags all round.
