Avensis - 2.2 engine - query

Chance of another cheap shed being a 2.2 D avensis (non taxi !) With 103k on it and fsh.
Timing chain or cam belt? Intervals? Assume if looked after this would be a good shed proposition as loads around on big mileage. Anything else to consider?

You've not given much information (age, budget etc) but Honda Accord springs to mind. 7th Gen is best as it's Japanese built, 6th gen was built here in Swindon but still reliable enough.

It's a 2006 avensis. Apparently they are a cam chain engine and reliable, can't seem to find too much on the net about the avensis having issues. It's a lightly accident damaged (wing crumpled) but headlight still working so mainly cosmetic. Going cheep cheep lol

The 148bhp or 175bhp. The former I'm guessing as it seems way more common than the 175.

Just wondered as I was looking at an Auris with 175bhp in the last week (didn't get it) but did a fair bit of reading about the engine. Couldn't see anything particularly bad. Same engine in the Lexus 220d and seems pretty reliable. As for the 148bhp, no idea.

One thing to watch out for is the car popping out of gear (5th).

Common issue on the Avensis meaning worn selector forks in the gearbox, my old '55 d4d was pulled from service and never seen again, wasn't worth a gearbox rebuild etc, but was a good solid car.
