Best value petrol automatic for 20 mile commute? £10k.

Would be grateful for some car buying wisdom please. Looking something with good value, reliable automatic gear box.

Budget roughly 10k
Max 4 years old.
No diesal. No Germans.
Milage 10k a year.
4 doors.
3 Day commute 40 miles round trip.
Automatic gearbox.

Asking for a friend who is paranoid about auto gearbox reliability, so who is the leader here with these requirements?

Wow what an obsurdly specific set of requirements.

The only things I can think of are a lexus Is250 or a mazda 6

15 plate, 10K, Auto, Petrol, 5 Door, non German:

Astra, 308, CEED/i30, Pulsar, ix20, Auris, Megane.

All quite reliable with a slush box, all quite boring, all tick his boxes.

10K doesn't buy a great deal of German sub 10K slush box and they can be pretty fragile...you're friend, contrary to opinions on here, isn't stupid.

Does it have to be a 4 door saloon?

Any 5 door Japanese hatchback (Civic, 3, Auris to name but three) would do the job.

If it has to be a saloon, then the Mazda 3 saloon or 6 are probably your only options if it has to be under 4 years old.
