X-Type Sill Corrosion - Were later cars more resilient?

Hi,

I'm asking for this a relative.

They have an early X-Type Estate (2004) which is getting on a bit now in both mileage and general deterioration (courtesy of the northern climate).

It has previously had both sills patched and we are aware that the X-Type is prone to the sills rotting from the inside out, reportedly starting from the inner sill.

If they were to replace the car with a later model say 2007 or later, would this be just as prone to the sills rotting out as their existing model or did Jaguar revise the rust proofing and design to mitigate the corrosion?

They were all susceptible to it I’m afraid. Later models (2004 MY onwards) were better but it didn’t cure it. It’s a shame as late models with the Sport kit look fantastic. I looked into X Types last year. I think the S Type wasn’t too bad in its later years.

That's a shame as they otherwise appear good value for the comfort, kit and general low running cost (thanks to sharing mondeo parts).

Do you know if the post 04 MY cars only rot toward the rear of the sill or is it still the whole length of the inner sill including a pillar?
