NOT an exciting topic - sorry!

My wife's much loved 2001 95 Saab 95 SE LPT (petrol) estate is showing signs of reaching the end of its life. I can't complain - I bought it for £2K 10 years ago and it's done nearly 200K. Thoughts on possible replacements? Wanted - similar sized estate, auto, petrol. Will do 5K max each year - dont want to spend more than around £4K. I'm looking for something which will be reasonably reliable and cvomfortable - I dont mind a bill for a few hundred in repairs each year.

I think you're looking at Volvo V70s (2.4/2.5) and Mondeos (2.0/2.3/2.5), realistically.

I'm in a similar spot with thinking about replacing an old diesel Merc E estate (which replaced a SAAB 9-5 2.2 TiD estate funnily enough), will only be doing 3-5k miles a year in it so want a petrol auto also, around £5k budget.

There just isn't much out there - everything was diesel at this sort of age.

I'd like to think an Avensis or a Mazda 6 is the answer but they are in really short supply, and have a max of about 150bhp in petrol guise. I'd like about 180-200.

Perhaps Honda Accord 2.4 is the answer, but again, very, very few of them around.

I rule out all VAG products because of DSG and its servicing requirements/reliability question. Although perhaps I'm being overly harsh.

Maybe BMW 520/525/530 is worth a look, but I fear big bills with those at this price range/age - I've had some whoppers on the Merc.

I was thinking Volvo V70 too.

Have you looked for another Saab with maybe less miles on it if your wife loves it so much? probably going to be the best value for money

Honda Accord did spring to mind first but the auto versions add about 2 days onto the 0-60mph time and I reckon you could end up missing the lower end torque of a turbo. Some nice SAABs about, especially 9-3's but would that be too small? Either that or Volvo.
