New car time and looking for ideas?

Im starting to look for a new weekend toy, Im not after anything to modern that still losing its value.
So far im thinking...

Lotus Elies S2
BMW Z3M
and the wild card is a 60's Ford Mustang.....

Interested in anyone thats owned any of the above and also other ideas?

Sub 15k or maybe more for something a bit different.

I own an S2 Elise and test drove a Z3M when I was buying... obviously very different cars. The Elise is all about the chassis and control feel, the engine is adequate to not detract from the experience but no more. The Z3 is all about the engine with a (barely) adequate chassis. The Z3 is certainly more... user-friendly, but I'd expect it to be considerably more expensive to run.

I don't think you could say either car is "better" than the other but they are certainly very different.

Ive always had bigger engine cars in the past 996 3.4 450 chimera and a M3 never driven an Elise and i know its all about the power to weight ratio just get get my head around that little 1.8 getting me going lol

Racing Puma and VX220 Turbo were the first things to spring to mind as per ZX mentioning above.

Not a fan of the vx220 i know there basically an Elise just not fussed on the look of them. The Puma well thats something ive never seen in the flesh.

Supercharged s2000?

Get a cracking transplanted mini for that as well, 340bhp in a 600kg car... Just depends if something like that would appeal

And yet your wish list includes a Lotus Elise?

Hard to believe but I found there's more room in the Elise than the S2000 as for build quality I'm not sure yet.

I’ve had a TVR Griffith, Elise S2 111s, just sold a 996 3.4 and just bought a S2000! Had an old Alpina along the way too and a Boxster Spyder.

They’re all different, all good in their own way. The Griffith I loved, but the thrill verged on fear and it was no fun after a hot tiring day, let alone with a child on board. Always a huge “event” though. The Elise was extremely competent. Too much so really. It was a joy on the right road but “thrills” were few and far between. The 911 was a great blend of everything. Great on all roads, in all conditions. Characteristic enough to savour even at a cruise. Great with one of more family on board too.

Haven’t had the S2000 long enough to give a very helpful view but first impressions are many of the best bits of all the above in a relatively uncomplicated, competent but characteristic package. Also the cheapest of the above by some margin.

Try one, you might like it. It’s snug but at 6’2” I’m very comfortable.
