Bold claims in car adverts

HI, first post, apologies if repeat thread or wrong section.

I was looking at MR2's on autotrader and found this advert. The first sentence of the description says the MOT date and the claim: "WELL LOOKED AFTER CAR".

I know sellers always going to be creative, but is this too bold a claim? If you look at the MOT history i feel like that sentence is something worthy of trading standards: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

Would a buyer have any legal recourse if something went wrong with it? What bold claims have you came across?

i would expect a 25 year old car to be rusty.

It's made it to nearly 25 years old when the average car in the UK is scrapped at around 13 years, so it can't have been too used and abused. For £1000 you're not going to buying someone's garage queen.

Only and idiot would expect that on an old banger like this.

It’s a cheap worn out rusty heap a few over optimistic words in the advert can never change that (nothing wrong with buying cheap old cars as long as your understand what you are buying and don’t expect some kind of magic warranty).

If this is your approach to buying a cheap car I suggest you buy a new car, or maybe a toaster or a kettle - something you can take back for a new one when it fails -

That rear bumper looks a bit special. But to be fair, if a car runs and stops at that price, it is all a buyer should expect.

A cursory look at the pics tells you that’s not a well looked after car, a just about roadworthy one I am sure but not much more.
Not sure how serious OP is about having any recourse? Surely nobody would be naive enough to expect that, would they?......

It's done next to no miles since January 2017 and only failed on bulbs since 2011 - not exactly abused IMO.

Looks like it might have had a lot of work carried out in 2010 to fix the long list of defects then ran well up until 2017 when it was parked and has since only continued to deteriorate in condition from neglect/lack of use.

Have you really got nothing better to do with your time? I'm sure you could argue that any car that's made it to 25 years old and can still get an MOT has been looked after to some extent. And no, you're not going to get much recourse buying a £1k 25 year old shed.

I think you could find a much nicer MR2 for a grand.

Look at the profile view. You can actually see the rattle can, rust prevention job on the sill. a 1995 car should have colour coded sills (which that appears to underneath) and I think that a lot of rust has been covered up there.

I suspect you would spend a whole lot more than the asking price on that car moments after purchase.
