Hey everyone,

Finally made my mind up on selling my RS3, been toying with this idea for few months but now it's reality, the car is going on the 28th of this month.

There are number of reasons for the decision but mainly just want to be more sensible with money.

I still want for the next car to pack a punch, been thinking about S4/S5 B8.5 or maybe A7 3.0BiTdi

Thinking this time around max I want to spend on a car is 25K but preferably would like to stay under 20. Tired of paying stupid money for cars and running costs.

Doesn't really matter if diesel or petrol as no car will even come close to sounding like the 5 cylinder from RS3.

What would you get as replacement for RS3 and why?

For fun and budget, new Fiesta ST. Great little car. I bought one recently following the theft of my two other cars and I love it. I've had quite a few 'nice' cars over the years and don't really miss them.

What sort of driving/mileage do you do? Do you need 5 doors and 5 seats? Any brands you aren't keen on? Maximum age/mileage you'd consider?

A bit more info would be useful to help narrow things down.

I was thinking no older than 2012, with max 70,000miles on it.
Mainly I do B road driving and go out on motorway about once a week.
On average I do about 12K a year, no that fussed about fuel consumption as long as its not completely atrocious as I found the RS3 not that bad on fuel.
Doesn't really matter if it is 2dr or 4dr, body style wise I was thinking either coupe, saloon or 4x4.
Don't want a hatchback or convertible, preferably I want to stick to Audi but open to suggestions.

Hope this helps to narrow it down.

Thanks

I’m looking to do the opposite, Ie. Trade in my A7 Bitdi for an RS3... fancy something a bit more fun. Be interesting what you go for.
I’ll vouch for the A7, it’s a lovely car, just doesn’t stir the soul.

As you say the S5 is the obvious answer as I'd suggest the A7 is probably a bit of a barge for B Road driving. Great long distance cruiser though.

You could pick up a nice 435i GC in budget and meeting your other requirements. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Plenty quick, sounds good, excellent on fuel for the performance on offer, better gearbox than the RS3 and none of the RS/M tax on parts and servicing?

For something a bit more bonkers how about a Jag XFR. 5.0 supercharged V8 and a noise that may change your mind about the RS3. smile

Thanks for your reply guys.

My family members were suggesting A7/A8 because they think coupes are for selfish people lol.
But nice A7/A8 that I would want are way out of budget.

I actually had 435 before I got the RS3, right now I am in middle of negotiations for 2013 Audi S5, nicely specced but definitely not paying the asking price, now awaiting e-mail from the sales person, be interesting to see what they say as I low balled them but I think that's the only way to get where I want with price.

Will keep you updated and anymore suggestions are welcome.

What about an M135/140? Still quick but I’m guessing smaller running costs given no RS tax.

I went RS3, RS4 then M5. Might not align with the "saving money" philosophy though wink

Thanks for your inputs guys, some real nice suggestions. Especially the F10 M5, to keep you updated the deal on S5 fell through as the sales person was a complete douchebag so I walked away.

My situation is not so much about saving money as it is about starting to like cars again, as it seems to me that I'm losing my hobby of cars and wrenching on them.

With last two cars I had (435 and RS3) they were too new to work on myself, plus the warranty and depreciation turned what should be fun car into me not liking the car and losing love for my hobby.

Just messaged a friend of mine that works at BMW to see if they have any E46 M3, manual, coupes in the system, might be a long shot but it seems as going back to grass roots would help me liking cars again, maybe.

Keep them suggestions coming, thanks

Sorry to hijack but did you sell your RS3 private or to a dealer? Currently got one and looking to sell shortly too...

I'm selling mine to a dealer, I can get more money if I sell it privately but honestly I just want it gone.
If you decide to go to a dealer to sell it, I'd recommend going to a specialists because you can get more money out of them rather than brand dealerships.
Maybe drop an e-mail to Dhyllan from Automotive Addiction he is always on a lookout to buy RS3s.

I'm thinking about taking a break from mental cars and going to look at 640D Gran Coupe next week but than again I am unpredictable so don't know what will happen.

Will update this thread once I know more.

Cheers

Cheers. Sold mine yesterday to a specialist, got about 1.5k less than I'd have wanted private. Let me know if you want their details.

Who did you sell it to, sounds good that's not too big of a difference between private sale and selling to specialist.

So what's next for you?

This is a good shout. I've been looking into what to change into when my giulia goes back next year, and the QV may be out of reach for now. The XES looks like a very good car with tidy examples <25K
