Evening All,

So the family bus is now due for replacement, or at least feel like we should.

We got a 2009 '09 535d M-Sport Estate, we bought it back in 2014 with 43k on the clock and she has just ticked over 122k. In that time it has only cost maintenance bits - tyres, brakes, servicing and MOTs but given it is over 10 years old, we want something a bit more modern with a few gadgets.

We have just got a E220d estate (for my work) but need something to ferry the family around. Ideally another 6 cylinder but would settle for 4 cylinder for right car.

So far, my list is (similar size)

530d M-Sport G31 (17-67 plate)
530d M-Sport F11 (Very late 16/17 plate)
A6 Avant 3.0 TDI
Skoda Superb SportLine +
Mazda 6 GT Estate

Mrs wants a Velar, but I am not convinced lol.

Any ideas? Anyone else been in same position?

Thanks

I’m looking for a new car aswell and honestly for the price you can get them the G30 just ticks every box you can have.

I just can’t see past it, even when I do find something I think I might like better I start thinking why would I get this when I can get the 5er for the same price or even less.

Get a 530e and imo you have the ultimate affordable future proofed car, has all the tech you can wish for and fully up to date, also a petrol engine with the hybrid thrown in for good measure. Think it’s faster than the standard 2.0 as the electric motors give it a boost when needed.

Edit: also they are huge!
Edit 2: I’d definately consider a V70 as a good contender also. You get a LOT of car for your money there.

Agree with the G30 completely, although we are aiming for the G31 (Estate) and I believe the 530e is only saloon?

Hmm are you sure? They even do x5 hybrids. If you’ve researched it though your probably right, just seems a bit weird they don’t offer it!

Unfortunately yeah, the 530e does appeal to us to be honest but they only offer saloon.

What's your budget?
If looking at nearly new I'd go for the new C8 A6 50 TDI (3.0 diesel). Fantastic interior and being reviewed as better than G30 and E class
They are quite new though so likely to be more expensive used than both aforementioned

Sorry, I forgot to mention budget.

I am hoping to sell 535d for around £8k, so happy to put in £27k + £8k = £35k.

I'd say the E Class is well worth a test drive, if you're looking at the Mazda6 I'd also look at the Mondeo in Vignale trim.

Another vote for the G30 530d. Absolutely fantastic cars, drive them at work and they’re effortlessly fast and comfortable. Massive in the boot as well! Look for an M Sport as it will hold its value.

Hes got an E class albeit only a 4 pot diesel smile

I would go for an E350 personally.

This is a great looking car. The only snag is that the list price would almost certainly have been over 40k, setting the next owner up for hideous road tax charges for the next 5 years

Think he said he also has an E220 estate as a works car.

Alternative perhaps worth considering: 2018/19 XF Sportbrake 2L petrol 250bhp.
