Can I keep the number plate?

Hi all,

For personal reasons, I would like to keep the standard issue number plate on my VW Polo lease which expires in October. Is there anyway I could do this and change it over to my new car?

There won't be any issues with the DVLA as far as retaining an "ordinary" registration number. Just apply to retain the number and pay the £80

The only potential issue will be with the leasing company ( I'm assuming it's the type of lease where the leasing company is the registered keeper and you don't have the reg doc yourself.

Most leasing companies will allow you to assign your own personal number to one of your cars and will assist you (with an admin fee) to retain it at the end of the lease. Phone them up and ask to speak to someone who deals with retaining number plates and let them know you would like to retain it. They'll either say yes or no.
