Hi there, I am unemployed at the moment but when I get a job I want to buy a pickup truck as I've always loved them since I was little.

The problem is, a lot of the adverts seem to have a clause forbidding private buyers.

Should I just pretend I'm a tradesman or what? I don't really understand what the hell it has to do with them anyway.

I've had loads of pick ups over the years (much more fun/useful than boring economy cars) - all bought privately - but, when looking for my most recent, found a few at dealers who wouldn't entertain selling to a private individual. Never did receive any decent responses as to why not...

depends on what you want I guess. I've owned 3 pick-ups trucks - but they were all US ones and so an 'enthusiast'/hobby vehicle

My dad has a T5 van as a private owner and it's a hassle. Insurance is hard to get and expensive, you can't take it to the tip, and he got stopped in Germany for towing with a commercial vehicle on a Sunday. He loves it though.
